The soil-structure interaction is an important component in the design of a building or any structure in general. In order to improve productivity, the GSE software provides an automatic slab on grade generation function.
This function makes it possible to distribute the soil stiffness to the slabs modeled by finite elements by the means of equivalent springs. This allows for the complete analysis and design of slabs, using a 3D model as well as the reinforced concrete design tools from the SAFI GSE Concrete module. With this function, users can generate and efficiently analyze slabs of complex geometries.
The analysis of the model allows to calculate several important parameters for the design of the foundation. While considering the various load combinations, the nodal displacements of the slab on the ground make it possible to check the stability and deflections of the structure. According to the deflection, the stiffness and the tributary area calculated for each of the nodes, the exerted pressure of the slab on the ground is calculated. This data makes it possible to verify the sizing of the foundations by ensuring that the bearing capacity of the soil is not exceeded.
The function in the GSE Concrete automatically calculates the nodal tributary areas to save users’ time. The foundation can be supported by either: ground springs, regular springs, fixed supports, piles or imposed displacements allowing flexible modeling for users.
The GSE Concrete supports several concrete design standards. With the automated slab generation and design tools in the GSE, the longitudinal reinforcement required to withstand bending forces is calculated according to the design parameters defined by the user. The 3D visualization of the reinforcement is available in the GSE Concrete software.
SAFI’s reinforced concrete slab design assistant becomes the ultimate tool for slab design in a simple and intuitive way. Part of the GSE Concrete Design, it allows the user to quickly and efficiently generate design strips for any concrete slab.
Directly linked to the automated functionalities of the line of integration using finite elements, this application allows the user to operate in a specialized environment in order to perform mesh generation. SLAB ENGINEERING simultaneously defines model geometric elements such as supports, walls and openings.
The assistant generates column strips and middle strips that are adapted to the geometries of the bidirectional span of the slab. This assistant is directly linked to the automated mesh generation functionalities, allowing us to use the geometrical elements such as supports, walls and openings for both the finite elements model and the design strips generation.
Slab Engineering supports a complete and efficient solution for slab design. Without a doubt, this new technological breakthrough will help increasing productivity and success in various design projects.
Automated column line generation
A column line is used as a guide line for the column strip location. They can be placed on the supports along the two principal axis of the slab. The automated column line function allows to automatically detect the column lines in both axis of the slab.
Slab and beam cracked deflections
The calculation of the immediate cracked deflections for slabs and beams uses the new Cracked SLS load combinations. This command allows to define the various parameters required to perform a cracked elements analysis and calculate immediate and long-term cracked deflections.
Punching shear on drop panel
Additional parameters have been added to verify the punching shear around drop panels. The drop panels can be rectangular, circular or defined with an existing mesh contour refinement area.
Part of the GSE (General Structural Engineering) software, GSE CONCRETE allows the design of concrete members subjected to a linear, P-Delta, non-linear, seismic or dynamic analysis.
